Easter is Sunday, April 9, 2023
What is Lent, you may ask? No, we are not talking about that gray stuff that is in your dryer!
Lent is a season of 40 days (not counting Sundays) that lead up to Easter. These days are a time for us to reflect on the journey of Jesus. To realize that Jesus loved us so much that he chose to die for us. YOU and ME. All of us.
In the church we walk the journey together. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and goes through Holy Saturday.
We invite you to walk the journey of Lent with us. You don’t even need a good pair of walking shoes or a passport, just a willing heart and an open mind.
OUR LENTEN THEME: (based on African American Spirituals) PLENTY GOOD ROOM (adapted from the Lenten Bible Study written by Marilyn E. Thornton and Lewis V. Baldwin)

Ash Wednesday Service Wednesday, February 22, 2023 7:00 PM
Come for a short meditation and the imposition of the ashes. On Ash Wednesday, we come together to remember our own morality and our need for reconciliation with God.
We are all sinners and are in need of the grace of God. During the service, we receive a mark of the ashes on our forehead as we hear the words, “Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return.”

Release of the butterflies following worship
At Cherrydale UMC, we release painted lady butterflies after worship as a sign of the resurrection and new life. We spend the weeks prior to Easter watching the caterpillars transform into something new. The perfect reminder that Jesus makes all things new.
Christ is Risen, Alleluia!
